My kids are sick. One can argue that's bad for business seeing as I sell elderberry syrup & swear by all its many benefits. The truth of the matter is kids get sick. My goal is to have tons of tools in my arsenal when they do.
LJ spiked a fever (it got pretty high at 103.8) Friday night & Coop followed suit although his has been significantly lower. They both have a cough with scratchy throats. Is it the flu?🤷🏻♀️ I'm not sure because unless they show signs of distress, I'm keeping them out of the MD office & ER where they can be exposed to even more germs. Here's my sick kid protocol:
1) Increase elderberry syrup intake to every 3 hours & up their fluids to insure hydration. We prefer h2o as well as an electrolyte solution such as @Pedialyte. The elderberry syrup can reduce fever & is a natural cough suppressant. I did give my little miss acetaminophen when her fever was approaching 104. The main goal is to keep them comfortable. Fever is the body's natural response to sickness & is a good sign of adequate immune response.
2) Give them lots of fruits & veggies to provide extra vitamins/minerals such as Vitamins C & E as well as calcium & fiber. Yogurt is also a great choice since it's full of live cultures & protein. We are also fans of bone broth. It is nutrient dense & can aid digestion & hydrate. If they have belly issues we follow the BRAT diet: Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast.
3) Monitor food & fluid intake as well as sleep patterns & how much they're going to the bathroom. If any of those things are disrupted for long, we call the pediatrician.
4) Lots of snuggles, movies, & for us parents, it means clearing our schedules and doing all we can to get them well, as frustrating as that is sometimes.
So far, both of mine are eating, drinking, & sleeping like champs. We snuck outside and made a lap around the Hollow, let the 🐓 out, collected the 🥚 , & snuggled in the hammock while there was a tad of 🌞 peeking through the ⛅️ . They're moving a little slower, are a little more clingy, & are definitely more needy, but I'm choosing to enjoy every snuggle & this 🌧 day home with my 2 kiddos, as inconvenient as it may be to the progress of my business & having to miss a board meeting I was supposed to attend tonight. At the end of the day, we have to remember these days are numbered & to #letthembelittle, especially when they're 🤒. There's a reason for everything!
